Las Vegas, NV - Pedestrian Critically Hurt in Wreck on S Decatur Blvd near W Tropicana Ave

Las Vegas, NV (July 23, 2024) – A pedestrian suffered critical injuries in a car crash that happened in Las Vegas.

Reports from authorities show the wreck occurred on South Decatur Boulevard near West Tropicana Avenue at around 11:45 p.m. Police say a vehicle identified as a Lexus GS350 was headed south on Decatur, headed toward a green light on Tropicana Avenue. A Chevrolet Malibu was at the red light facing northbound Decatur, south of Tropicana, while a pedestrian was standing on the sidewalk on Decatur Boulevard. Police reported the driver of the Malibu, Jessica Carreon, 35, ran the red light and drove into the intersection into the path of the Lexus. As a result, the Lexus collided with the Malibu, which was then sent careening into the pedestrian. The pedestrian was transported to the trauma center at a local medical facility, where they received emergency medical care for their life-threatening injuries. Police in Las Vegas continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

We hope the injured victim makes a timely and swift recovery.

Nevada Pedestrian Wrecks

Traffic accidents have become one of the main reasons people in the state of Nevada and throughout the United States end up with serious injuries or worse. Across the nation, auto accidents are among the top ten reasons individuals lose their lives. Additionally, people ages 15-20 most often end up with fatal injuries due to auto accidents in the United States. Every day, more than 17,000 traffic collisions happen throughout the country that injure around 7,500 people and take the lives of approximately 100.

When pedestrians become involved in traffic accidents, they almost always sustain serious injuries due to being unprotected against the force of fast-moving vehicles. On average, in the United States, pedestrians are involved in approximately 17% of auto accidents. Over 6,000 pedestrians lose their lives per year in the US, and, in Nevada specifically, several dozen pedestrians lose their lives yearly.

Also in Nevada, more than 50,000 auto accidents happen annually that injure tens of thousands of people and take the lives of hundreds. Regrettably, driver negligence is the cause of the majority of these crashes. According to information provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, over 94% of car accidents are caused by driver negligence in the US.

When you or a loved one has been hurt in a traffic accident that you believe was caused by a negligent driver, you should not have to worry about money to make a full recovery. You may be suffering from serious injuries that have landed you in the hospital, unable to work or see your family and friends. This can be devastating. Hence, you should not have to worry about how you will make ends meet financially when you are already dealing with so many other problems.
