Las Vegas, NV - Two-Car Wreck Takes One Life, Injures Another on Las Vegas Blvd near Walnut Rd

Las Vegas, NV (April 2, 2024) – A motorist was intoxicated and traveling at approximately 100 mph over the speed limit moments before he caused a fatal two-car accident to occur in northeast Las Vegas. 

The crash took the life of one man and critically injured the passenger inside the suspect’s vehicle. The Metropolitan Police Department reported that a Dodge Challenger was traveling 140 mph approximately three seconds before it struck a  Hyundai sedan in the early morning of March 22. The wreck happened at Las Vegas Boulevard North near Walnut Road. 

The driver of the Hyundai was identified as Luciano Chavez Y Chavez, age 38. He lost his life at University Medical Center a short time after the collision occurred. The suspect’s passenger had to be extricated from the Challenger before being taken to UMC for treatment. Police report that the driver of the Dodge Challenger smelled like alcohol and he was arrested in connection with the crash. Investigations into the circumstances of the accident continue.
