Tens of thousands of people suffer injuries in these crashes, and hundreds of lives are lost yearly. Regrettably, most of these incidents occur due to the negligent actions of drivers. Careless driving has become a serious problem in the United States, especially in the last decade. Often, drivers in the United States are traveling while intoxicated, and, some of these drivers end up causing severe traffic collisions.
Driver negligence causes more than 94% of car crashes in the United States yearly. Some common types of negligent driving seen among American drivers today include:
- Intoxication
- Fatigue
- Distraction
- Speeding
For example, speeding takes more than 11,000 people’s lives annually throughout the country. Additionally, 12,000 people lose their lives each year due to drivers who are intoxicated while operating their vehicles. Fatigued driving causes more than 100,000 accidents each year and ends the lives of approximately 1,500 individuals annually, and driver distraction is behind approximately 400,000 collisions annually and more than 3,000 deaths.
